Master Thesis 2025: Mobile App Design for Satellite Status Monitoring
OHB Sweden is a leading Swedish supplier of space systems. We develop, build, test and commission satellites and subsystems for space missions in, for example, communication, earth observation and space research for institutional and commercial customers within and outside Europe.
OHB Sweden is operating several of the satellites it has designed and manufactured. A large part of the operations is already automated, but monitoring their status remotely in case of anomaly can sometimes be cumbersome. We are offering a Master Thesis position focused on designing a mobile application to monitor the status of satellites. The app will provide real-time updates and sufficient information to help users make informed decisions on whether a deeper investigation is required. The project will involve the development of a user-friendly interface, integration of satellite data, efficient alert mechanisms, and ensure secure access control for different user levels.
The tasks of the master's thesis topic are as follows:
- Analyze satellite telemetry data to identify key parameters for real-time monitoring.
- Design and develop a mobile app interface that provides clear and actionable insights.
- Implement access control features to restrict and manage user access based on roles or permissions.
- Integrate real-time data feeds from satellite systems into the app.
- Implement features such as alerts and notifications to signal when a deeper investigation is needed.
- Test and validate the app’s functionality with relevant satellite data to ensure accuracy, security, and usability.
The required candidate’s skills are:
- Experience in mobile app development (iOS/Android)
- Strong understanding of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design.
- Knowledge of real-time data integration and APIs.
- Basic understanding of satellite telemetry data or space systems is a plus.
- Understanding of access control mechanisms
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and in teams
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of data science in the space industry while gaining valuable experience in this domain. During the Master Thesis, OHB Sweden is offering support and technical expertise from highly skilled, motivated and innovative Software engineers.
The Master thesis requires you to be in Stockholm at our office in Kista and cannot be done remotely. We follow the export controls law and this regulates which country of birth people who work on our projects may have. We at OHB cannot influence this law.
We look forward to your application! 😀
