Propulsion Engineering Manager
Join OHB Sweden as a Propulsion Engineering Manager and help build the future of our propulsion organization, technology, and engineering capabilities.
As a Propulsion Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in shaping the future of propulsion systems at OHB Sweden. Our customers include major space companies, agencies, and commercial players across Europe and worldwide.
OHB Sweden develops propulsion systems for a wide range of scientific, commercial, and Earth-observation missions. Our propulsion solutions enable orbit raising, station keeping, attitude control, collision avoidance, and end-of-life disposal for spacecraft operating in increasingly demanding mission environments.
The Propulsion Department is responsible for the complete lifecycle of OHB Sweden's propulsion products, including system design, analysis, testing, qualification, production support, and future technology development. The department plays a central role in enabling mission success and is a key contributor to OHB Sweden's long-term competitiveness in the rapidly evolving space industry.
As our propulsion business continues to grow, we are evolving our organization to support an expanding portfolio of projects, products, and technologies. The Propulsion Department is currently being organized into four functional groups:
Propulsion Subsystem Engineering
Propulsion Testing
Propulsion Analysis
Propulsion Research & Development
Together, these groups comprise approximately 25 highly skilled engineers and specialists and are expected to continue growing over the coming years.
We are now looking for a Propulsion Engineering Manager to lead one or several of these groups. The exact scope of responsibility will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience, competencies, and leadership profile, as well as the continued evolution of the organization.
This flexibility creates an opportunity for candidates with backgrounds ranging from subsystem development and systems engineering to testing, verification, analysis, and technology development.
As a Propulsion Engineering Manager, you will be mainly responsible for
Line management of one or several propulsion groups.
Resource planning and prioritization across assigned groups.
Competence development and recruitment.
Implementing strategic and operational decisions from the Company Management Team within assigned groups.
Ensuring that competencies, capabilities, and resources evolve in line with future business and project needs.
Continuous improvement of engineering processes, methods, and tools.
Supporting project execution and business development activities.
Developing the long-term capabilities of the Propulsion Department.
Driving recruitment, onboarding, competence development, and performance management.
Contributing to business development activities, technical proposals, and customer engagements.
Promoting a strong engineering culture focused on technical excellence, innovation, quality, and collaboration.
What We're Looking For
Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
At least 7 years of experience within in-orbit propulsion, aerospace engineering, or another highly regulated high-technology industry.
Experience leading engineering teams, technical organizations, or large cross-functional projects.
Strong understanding of propulsion systems development, testing, analysis, or related engineering disciplines.
Proven ability to balance technical leadership with people leadership.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments.
Fluency in English; Swedish is considered an advantage.
A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in developing both people and organizations.
Experience within in-orbit propulsion is highly desirable. Candidates with relevant experience from adjacent industries such as aerospace, defense, energy, automotive, or advanced industrial systems are also encouraged to apply.
What We Offer
A unique opportunity to shape the future of OHB Sweden's propulsion systems.
A leadership role with significant influence on both organizational development and technical direction.
Involvement across the full lifecycle of propulsion products and processes.
A highly competent and motivated engineering organization.
A supportive and innovative work environment with excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Competitive salary and benefits with flexibility to support work-life balance.
The Propulsion Engineering Manager will report to the Head of Propulsion and become part of the Propulsion leadership team, helping shape the future development of both the organization and its technical capabilities.
Some travel may be required (typically 2–4 trips annually, primarily within Europe).
