Satellite Operations Engineer
Be involved in the running of our satellites - from concept to in-flight operations!
OHB Sweden is a leading Swedish supplier of space systems. We develop, build, test and commission satellites and subsystems for space missions in, for example, communication, earth observation and space research for institutional and commercial customers within and outside Europe.
With a rich history of designing and operating small satellites - ranging from decades of in-orbit heritage to recently launched missions based on our Innosat platform - OHB Sweden continues to be at the forefront of innovative and reliable space solutions.
Job Description:
We are looking to expand our Satellite Operations Team, responsible for following projects from early ConOps definition, through the design and implementation phases and finally supporting the actual execution of the mission. You will be part of a highly dynamic environment, working with system and subsystem engineering to define how missions are implemented and following up on the actual results. An important part of the role is to be responsible for planning, executing and optimizing satellite operations, ensuring satellite health, and responding to anomalies in real time.
The Satellite Operations Team supports missions both operated in-house and by our customers. Therefore, a crucial skill is the ability to understand and communicate system details effectively to aid operations. Your tasks will include defining onboard autonomy for failure detection, writing user manuals and flight procedures, and conducting System Validation Tests (SVT) on the ground. You will play a leading role within the Flight Operations Team during phases such as Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP), in-orbit commissioning, and all the way to the disposal phase.
We are looking for a team-oriented individual who is a quick learner, capable of providing technical guidance to colleagues, and able to work autonomously. Strong problem-solving skills, personal initiative, and a pragmatic approach to work - focusing on delivering right level of quality results within schedule - are essential for success in this role.
The position is based at our premises in Kista, Stockholm, within the Spacecraft System & Operations department, specifically under Spacecraft Ground Segment and Operations. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Department.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in satellite system or subsystem engineering
- Strong understanding of TT&C, flight dynamics, and ground segment architecture
- Experience with anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and recovery procedures
- Fluent in the English language, both spoken and written
- Legal authorization to work in Sweden
Added advantageous qualifications:
- Experience of work in Mission Control during critical phases
- Familiarity with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Knowledge of CCSDS & ECSS communication protocols
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
We look forward to your application!
