Digital System Architect / Digital Designer at OHB Sweden
OHB Sweden is a Swedish provider of space systems and develops, builds, tests and operates satellites for different kinds of space missions within communications, earth observation, space research and exploration. We deliver satellites and sub-systems for low-earth-orbit, geostationary and interplanetary missions.
We are now looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Digital System Architect / Digital Designer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of on-board processing systems for small satellites.
General:
The work is mostly executed in a typical office environment, but the hardware is handled in our own clean rooms, electrical labs, and environmental labs. So being comfortable in a typical engineering office/project environment, whilst also being comfortable in a lab environment, is very important.
All of this must be collected and presented – typically in rather formal design and/or test reports, written in English – to the chain of the project, partners and customers. This chain is often international and follows demanding review cycles.
Task breakdown:
- Design and digital system engineering in the areas of Data Handling and related on-board applications.
- Define technical specifications for the on-board processing system, including data formats, processing algorithms, storage requirements, and computational resources.
- Collect and analyze data processing requirements for satellite imagers or other high data bandwidth payloads, and / or other on-board processing units, including data storage.
- Conduct market research to identify suitable on-board processing hardware and architectures.
- Develop comprehensive digital architecture documentations, outlining the on-board processing components and their interactions, including block diagrams, flowcharts, and system design descriptions.
- Create detailed design documents for each element of the on-board processing system, including processors, memory units, data buses, and interfaces.
- Develop a Design, Development, and Verification Plan (DDVP) of an on-board processing unit.
- Define a software development plan for modelling the on-board processing subsystem, including data throughput analysis and processing time estimation.
- Defining and designing test procedures, setups, documenting (drawings, schematics) with rather open initial definitions.
- Support future programs and projects with planning and budgeting for the purpose of proposals.
Required qualifications:
- Master of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering,
- >7 years experience in a digital design, embedded systems and FPGA development, validation and testing,
- Experience in high-speed data transfer techniques design and implementation (SerDes, PCI, SATA, etc.),
- Experience in SoC FPGA development, and third-party IP-Core implementation,
- Experience in VHDL, FPGA synthesis and place-and-route flow,
- Experience in Soft Processor implementation, memory EDAC, DDR, ADC/DAC,
- Experience in embedded software and hardware drivers,
- Experience in electronic board design,
- The ability to generate, read and understand complex electrical schematics and datasheets, and have a good electrical understanding,
- Familiarity with hardware handling and testing,
- Fluent in English
Advantageous additional qualifications:
- Experience in Fault Tolerant digital design
- Knowledge in encryption standards
- Knowledge in data processing (filtering, etc.) and compression algorithms
- Familiarity with CCSDS standards
- Experience in the Space Business and knowledge of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) is a merit
- Fluent in Swedish
Team working and ability to work autonomously are key to a typical day. OHB Sweden is not a large company, and much of the expertise lies on the Engineer to handle these tasks quickly, efficiently and work closely with your colleagues! Some travel may be required (3-5 trips per year).
Due to the security matter of the position (ITAR classified elements, military application, dual use), only people born in EU and / or NATO country (except USA) can apply. Born in EU/NATO and citizenship in EU/NATO is required.
Note that a security check will be conducted prior to employment.
If you feel confident that you meet the above requirements, have a strong desire to contribute to space development, are keen on taking responsibility within electronics and testing, and can enjoy spending your working hours with contagiously nerdy people, then we are looking forward to hearing from you!
