Head of the Mechanical & Thermal Department
If you wish to participate to the development of future space systems, and want to find yourself in a dynamic and inspiring work environment, we very much look forward to hearing from you!
As Head of the Mechanical & Thermal Department, you will make a major contribution to the success of our missions. Our customers are the major space companies, agencies and commercial players in Europe and globally!
OHB Sweden is working on a series of scientific and earth observation missions. These include discovering a virgin comet, improving weathers forecast by atmospheric measurements, understanding the changes in our environment… These are just an extract of the purposes of some of our spacecraft projects.
The Mechanical & Thermal department offers you the chance to be involved in all phases of a space mission, including conceptual lay-outs and design together with system engineers to final environmental testing of the spacecraft prior to launch. The team is currently eight people plus consultants, and growing, covering mechanical design, thermal design, finite element analysis (NASTRAN and ESATAN), production drawing, test definitions, test execution, reporting and proposals.
Building this team up further and now transitioning to small-series industrialization, one of the main tasks of the Head of Department will be to bring new working procedures, methods and standards to the team. The project needs can vary significantly both in time and complexity, yet the team is relatively small, so close cooperation with the project managers and other technical department heads will be a key part of bringing new practices in to our exciting projects!
As Head of the Mechanical & Thermal department, you will be mainly responsible for:
- Acting as key responsible towards the customers, partners and suppliers on mechanical and thermal design issues.
- The management of the company's design tools, suppliers, software, licensing and most importantly driving the continuous improvement and development of our engineering design and test processes.
- Implementing the Company Management Team’s strategic and operational decisions.
- Creating a work-flow and process to support the mechanical and thermal design needs of our various projects.
- Ensuring that the department’s skills and competences are maintained and/or updated to reflect the company and projects’ needs.
- To report the activities within their area of responsibility to employees and managers.
- Resource planning to adapt resource availability in line with project demands, in close cooperation with the other departments.
- Budget within its area of responsibility (general expenses, training and investments).
- People development.
- Contribution to Business Proposals for the mechanical and thermal aspects.
- Recruitment of great new co-workers!
Qualifications required:
- As a minimum, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines
